Student Investment Challenge

DSE launched its first Scholar Investment Challenge (SIC) in 2014 in order to tap in the growing workforce of the country. The competition, which target Higher learning institutions in Tanzania, was well received and approximately 2,100 students from various institutions countrywide actively participated in the 3-month long challenge. Pleased by the impact of this initiative DSE conducted the SIC challenge again in 2015 with the Joint sponsorship from Twiga Cement and Vodacom and recorded an elevated participation of 2300 students. In the second challenge students demonstrated more depth in their investment thinking and level of participation during the competition demonstrated an increased understanding of investment in the financial markets among higher learning institutions generally. Pleased by this improved quality of participation, DSE conducted a 3rd Edition of challenge in 2016

Its 3rd Edition was supported by CRDB Bank PLC and Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) as the main sponsor and second sponsor respectively. In this chapter the DSE sought to enhance the user experience of the participants by enabling students with smartphones to participate more interactively and this resulted unprecedented increase in 48% increase in participation to a total of 3,400 students The main objective of the DSE Scholar Investment Challenge Initiative is to impart knowledge of the investment in the capital markets and create a culture of saving and investment in Youth. This initiative also aims to enhance financial management and entrepreneurial skills among the Tanzanian Youth and create sense of ownership, loyalty and association with the youth by reaching out to them and create unifying factor, hence enhancing Exchanges image. The challenge also creates an avenue for educating the youth on the prudent process of investment decision making and risk management
