Maendeleo Bank Plc (MBP) was registered as a Limited Company in February 2011 following a strategic decision made in 2008 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania – Eastern and Coastal Diocese. On September 9th, 2013, the Bank commenced operations as a regional bank after being issued Licence Number NBA 00026 to conduct banking business in Tanzania. Maendeleo Bank Plc became the first bank in Tanzania to be listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) from its inception, thereby operating as a Public Limited Company (PLC) under the Enterprise Growth Market segment. This milestone set a distinctive benchmark for transparency, governance, and market discipline in the country’s banking and capital markets. Maendeleo Bank is a fully-fledged commercial bank, duly licensed and regulated by the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Bank operates with a clear mandate to mobilize savings, extend credit responsibly, and deliver modern banking solutions to households, SMEs, corporates, and institutions across the economy. The Bank maintains a strong capital base of TZS 26 billion, providing a solid foundation for sustainable growth. The Bank is currently implementing a comprehensive six-year Strategic Plan (2025–2030) anchored on three transformational pillars: Culture and Talent Transformation, Technology Transformation, and Business Growth.
